Learning Local

Learn in your neighborhood then travel!

The Learning Local program offered by Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) allows you to attend class locally and then participate in a Cultural Hi-Ways tour to the destination you’re studying, the cost of which is included in the tuition price.  Choosing this option you have the entire tour weekend to explore destinations like Boston, Montreal (Canada), New Orleans, Niagara Falls and Washington, DC.

What's included in the course?
— Fun and informative classroom sessions designed to introduce you to the city you’ll visit as you learn about its history, culture and attractions
— All costs associated with the class
— A Cultural Hi-Ways tour (round trip transportation included) to the destination you’re studying (Please visit the Cultural Hi-Ways website to see what’s included in your specific tour.)

How you'll learn. You’ll attend 2 or 3 all-day Sunday classes (a few courses might include a Saturday class) in your local area. Classes typically start at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Then, at a later date, you'll participate in a tour to the destination you studied.

How many credits will you earn? You’ll earn either 32, 36 or 40 hours of credit depending on the course you choose.

Where are courses held? Learning Local classes take place in Chicago, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Looking to earn all 72 hours in one course?
Then check out the new New Orleans: Here and There course. New Orleans is known as “The Big Easy,” so this course is designed to be a “big easy” way for you to earn 6 credits getting to know this amazing city’s history, traditions, arts and culture!

There are so many ways to get your credits - it just has to be through an accredited university institution. I got all mine with @learningacrossamerica /@culturalhiways and goodness I can not recommend them enough - the Niagara Falls trip was THE TIME OF MY LIFE. Not only did I meet these AMAZING girls - shout out to the wawa crew - but we had the best laugh, the best mini vacay and got to visit Canada too! This was a fantastic way to get my credits done and dusted - I got 4 for this trip and then two more for an NYC class with the same company. If you go to Niagara with culturalhiways, say hi to the Queen Mum - she’s the best thing to ever happen to the Au Pair world! @allanahoggard #aupairlife
