Nature's Classroom in the Southwest
We have an important update regarding entry to Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon for our From City Lights to Canyon Heights course in March.
This information was provided by MaxTour, the Southwest tour company with whom we partner, and reflects the current guidance issued by the National Park Service.
Why we’re sharing this now?
A fee policy was recently introduced by the current U.S. administration. This policy was not in place when this course was planned, priced or opened for enrollment.
Based on our tour operator’s recent experiences with groups at these parks, ID checks are now being enforced at park entrances, which is why we need to collect certain information in advance.
What’s changing?
As of January 2026, the U.S. National Park Service implemented a new policy requiring non-U.S. residents to pay an additional $100 surcharge to enter 11 of the most visited national parks, including Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon.
Park rangers will check identification at park entrances to determine eligibility.
Who is NOT affected
No further action is needed if you have ONE of the following:
A valid U.S. state-issued driver’s license, OR
A valid U.S. state-issued ID card, OR
A U.S. National Parks annual pass (with a valid state ID or driver’s license)
IMPORTANT: You must bring your ID and/or annual pass with you on the trip.
If you do NOT have a U.S. state-issued ID or driver’s license…
You will need park access through a shared America the Beautiful Annual Pass.
Cost breakdown:
National Parks annual pass (non-resident): $250
One pass covers up to 4 people
Cost per person: $62.50
Learning Across America will cover half the cost of the pass*
Your cost: $31.25
Learning Across America will organize everything if you choose this option.
*There are only 6 weeks before the start of the course and that may not be enough time to obtain a state-issued ID or driver’s license. Consequently, we would like to pay half the cost of the pass for those au pairs who have neither a state-issued ID or driver’s license.
Option to cancel
If the result of this change does not work for you, you may cancel your registration and receive a full refund.
Full refunds are available until Monday, February 9.
What do you need to do now?
Please submit this form no later than Friday, February 6, selecting ONE of the options appearing below.
If you’re unsure which option applies to you, or if you are planning to apply for a state-issued ID soon, please reach out — we’re happy to help.
Thank you for your understanding.
