Washington, DC is where history, culture, power and everyday life come together. Explore the stories, people and places that have helped shape the United States — and discover why the capital continues to play such an important role in America today.
Rather than simply learning about Washington from a classroom, you’ll experience the city itself through guided explorations, shared ideas and unforgettable landmarks.
The planned highlights include the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, World War I Memorial, the White House, U.S. Capitol, National Museum of American History and The People’s House Museum.

Self-Paced Online
Your journey begins with a flexible, self-paced online module available starting in October. Complete the activities and shared assignments at your own pace, whenever they fit your schedule.
Complete the online portion before your trip so you’ll have more free time to enjoy Washington, DC!

Meet your teacher and classmates, review the weekend plan and get answers to your travel and course questions.
NOVEMBER 6
Washington, DC Touring Experience
Begin exploring the capital’s landmarks, stories and civic life with your teacher and group.
NOVEMBER 7
Monuments, Museums + American Stories
Continue your guided Washington experience on foot and by public transportation.
NOVEMBER 8
Iconic Washington + Course Wrap-Up
Complete your exploration of Washington’s most memorable places and the in-person portion of your course.
Tuition Details
Use Your Host Family Education Contribution
- Most au pairs receive up to $500 from their host families to use toward their education requirement.
- Many students choose to apply this contribution toward this course.
The tuition price does not include:
- airfare to/from Washington, DC
- accommodations
- meals other than those listed
Earn Your Towson University Certificate
Once you successfully complete the course, you’ll earn 6 credits / 72 credit hours.
Your Certificate of Completion will be issued by Towson University, an accredited post-secondary institution, typically within 10 days after all course requirements have been completed.
You’ll have up to three weeks after the course to complete and submit your post-course assignment. The sooner you submit it, the sooner we can begin processing your certificate.
Cancellation & Transfer Policies
We understand that plans sometimes change. Your refund, course-credit or transfer options depend on how far in advance you make the change.
If You Cancel
If You Cancel Your Course Enrollment
- 22 or more days before the first class: Full refund.
- 21–11 days before the first class: Full refund less a $50 cancellation fee.
- 10–6 days before the first class: No refund. Instead, you’ll receive a Learning Across America course credit equal to the tuition paid, less a $75 cancellation fee. The credit is valid for one year and is transferable.
- 5 or fewer days before the first class: No refund or course credit is available.
Transfers
Transfer Your Place to Another Au Pair
You may transfer your enrollment in the same course to another au pair at no charge, provided we receive notice at least 3 days before the course begins.
Move to Another Learning Across America Course
- 22 or more days before your original course: No transfer fee.
- 21–11 days: $25 transfer fee.
- 10–6 days: $50 transfer fee.
- 5 or fewer days: Transfers are not permitted.
How to Cancel
Email Learning Across America from the enrolled student’s email address and use “Attention: Cancellation of Course” as the subject line.
